Why the name Rygene ? The reason for choosing the name Rygene Detector club has to be seen as a consiquence that two of the club`s founders: John and Morten, are living in the county of Rogaland. The name "Rygene" comes from the fact that some historians says that Rogaland has its name from the ancient people who lived in the south west of Norway called :"Ryger" meaning: corn-growers/farmers of corn.It was probably the same people that down the continent was refered to as "rugier". So "Rygene" is a good name indeed for a detecting club that for the most of the time has members searching in cornfields all over the country. The interesting thing is that it suprisingly also was persons from the people of "Rygene" with the army when the west-gotic King Teodorik submitted Rome under him.
The people that lived during the Vendel Era (approx. 350 - 550 AD) on the ancient farm at Ullandhaug outside Stavanger (now a reconstructed farm), might have had ties directly to Bulgary.
-" Arcealogical evidence like glas and animal ornamatics from the Iron Ages shows the connection between Norway and the area surrounding the Black Sea. We have strong evidence to say that we believe that a group of the "Ruigere" for some while settled in Trakia, that is in South Bulgary, in the 400`ds AD." Rugiene" probably belong to the same tribe as the people: "Rygene" from Rogaland in Norway. " Says Mr. Raa Storaker, archeologist.
"Rygjafylke"; Old county in western Norway;" ryger" Also read the fascinating article (in norwegian) by Frans A.Styegaard: the political geography in the nordic region.Which also includes references the Jordanes-the Gotic that in 551AD wrote " De origine actibusque Getarum", often refered to as Getica. Friendship-club with Thy-Mors Detektor Union in Denmark

Rygene Detektor Club and Thy-Mors Detektor union have become friendship-clubs after the many relationships that have evolved after the last years participation at Thy Rally in Danmark. Thy-Mors Detektor Union has a good reputation and cooperate with several local museums in Danmark, amongst them are The Archaeological Museum of Thisted and Morsoe Museum of history.
We know that we can learn a great deal from another by exchanging experiences and knowledge of what the objects we find in the ground are, but also how to find the best way to cooperate with museums and others that are of need of our services as detectorists. The Foreman in Thy-Mors Detektor Union is Claus Thinggaard, and it is nice to say that Claus has become a Rygene member, together with others from the club.
