Nobel find from Roman Era

Metaldetectorist Arne Schau and archaeologists Trude Aga Brun and Vibeke Lia presented today an unexpected find from the Roman -era to the press.

It was during the surveills regarding the new roadproject E-18 which Vestfold Fylkeskommune is in charge of, that the unexpecting gold ring was found. This has been the largest registration project that Vestfold Fylkeskommune has ever done before. The registration has included four countys in Vestfold and one in Telemark. A total of 950 testpitts by machines and over 250 testholes done by hand have brought exciting results -and will be published in a new book: "The road thru E-18".

Metaldetector find
Arne Schau is often hired to do metaldetecting services.He has over 30 years of experience and looked upon as a senior and a proffesionel. This find that he made in september was never the less something extraordinary,he found a ring. A ring of gold. Immedelity he contacted Vestfold Fylkeskommune and the archaeologists.And by the help of The Museum of Archaeology in Oslo it was determined that this ring dates from the Roman era, or from year 0-400AD. By the look og its size it might be a ring a man have used. Its large, and made manually and is heavier than goldrings of today. - This is not a every day find,says Schau about the finding.The ring is beeing kept at the Museum of Archaeology in Oslo
