Rygene Detector Club is a club of passionate detectorists with an interest of our history.Thru our hobby we are also contributing in finding out more about our history by finding loose objects in plough soil that are of historical and cultural value which we hand in for research and conservation for future generations to see and appreciate at museums.
The Intention of the club is to find and identify unknown loose objects of historical interests which lays in plough-soil, and in soaring paste is on the way of getting vanished caused by chemical disintegration due to acid rain, various toxins from the agriculture, fertilizing, ploughing, and increasing modern building activity.
The Club will be a place for those historical interested and responsable detectorists who wish to do an effort and contribute in finding those loose objects in plough-soil before its too late.By handing over these finds to the museum for conservation, storage and studying, gives us the oppurtunity to be a great resource for them, helping resque something that too often never would have been found if it wasn`t for us detectorists passing over it. The Club will carry on the line of being an active and open resource for the archaeologist, museums and the cultural-departments in Norway and give a helping hand whenever its asked upon from them and others. We will also by time arrange some detecting trips and gatherings together, and who knows: maybe a larger detecting -rally in the future?
The intention of the club is also to inform about the importance of responsible detecting; not only just according to the written laws but also the unwritten ones- Ethics. And not the last; the club`s homepage/memberforum shall be a meeting place for exchanging experience, knowledge and displaying finds for identification.
Many of the members in Rygene Detector club have a good cooperation with several museums and Norwegian counties and shall follow all laws and good ethics conserning detecitng in Norway.Otherwise they will be expeled from the club. Everyone agreeing with the intention of the club AND are recommended by one of the other members of Rygene Detector Club can apply for membership.

Picture above shows whats left of a disc brooch from Merovingian time.
The lovely piece of bronze was resqued by Morten Eek during detecting on plough-land on a field near Haaland in Sola,Rogaland. It has obvious had some rough meetings with both the plough and chemicals/acid soil over a long period of time. It would only have been a question of time before such a beautiful piece of jewellery had been resolved. Now it is laying on the Museum of Archaeology in Stavanger, conservated and well preserved.
It must be a goal trying to save as much of these important cultural and historical objects from plough-soil today-when we still have the chance!
