Arne finds gold ring from the Roman era

Arne Schau has been swinging again. This time he has found something as rare as a gold ring from the Roman era (appr.year 0-400 AD)

Rygene well represented in new exhibition at AmS

The Museum of Archaeology in Stavanger has a new exhibition on display these days and throughout the winter of -07. It`s called "Spor i jord"- New finds 2006/07. Detectorfinds made of members of Rygene Detecting Club have also been given a place in this exhibition.

A dive into Oseberg and Gokstad mounds

Rygene member Arne Schau, has had the priveledge to enter both Gokstad- and Oseberg mound within the same week. The finds in Oseberg mound is recognized as one of the richest finds from the Viking era in the world. The Oseberg Viking ship was built somewhere around the year 820 AD and is 22 meters long and five meters wide. The Gokstad Vikingship was built around year 890 AD and was buried 10 years later. The ship is 24 meters long and five meters wide.

The Thy Rally 2007

From the 21th-23th of september the annual Thy Rally was held in Denmark. Over 50 metaldeteorists from Denmark,Sweeden and Norway had come to Thy near Limfjorden in Denmark this weekend to participate at the largest detector-rally in Scandinavia. Again it was Thy-Mors Detectorunion and NDF-Nordic Detectorforum,and in cooperation and blessing with the Museum of Archaeology in Thisted that arranged this rally.

The participants also had a visit by Museumsinspector Peter Vang Petersen from the Museum of Achaeology in Copenhagen. Mr. Vang Petersen held an interesting leacture about Danish archaeology and what an important contributor metaldetectorist are for the cultural heritage in Denmark.

On assignment in West-Agder

Rygene have been on assignment again.This time we were invited down to the southern part of Norway, Lista by the county-archaeologists. Last year a farmer found a Viking sword on one of his fields. The sword might have come from an overploughed burialmound.We were invited to check if there could be more interesting items found on the spot...

Thy Rally in Denmark 22.-24th.september 2006

Thy Rally 2006

Morten, Aage og John took the trip downunder to Denmark where Denmark detectorforum and Thy-mors Detector association invited to Thy Rally 2006 for its members. This Rally has become the largest detector rally in scandinavia, and over 30 detectorists attended this year.It was grounds near Helligsoe, in cooperation and after agreement with landowners and the museum of Thisted,that was to bee hunted this weekend.Up from the ground came many excellent finds that was delievered for identification and preservation to the museum.

On assignment for the Museum of Archaeology in Oslo : Bjornstad in Oeastfold, fall-06

Detector aid during the excavations in Sarpsborg

Aage Olsen has been on a mission in the Bjornstad area near Sarpsborg.Here the archaeologists did many nice findings, amongst these was the remains of a Viking Boat, coffin burials and chamber graves. Aage found what appears to be a burnt jewellery made out of bronze and glas.
